よる【寄る】

1 〔近づく〕 approach; draw [come] near; 〔にじりよる〕 sidle up to…; edge near.

●少し北へ寄る lie [go] a little toward north; 【海】 make a little northing

・右へ寄る head to the right

・近くに寄って見る take a near(er) view of sth

・わきに寄る draw [step] aside

・ストーブのそばへ寄る step up to the heater.

●もっとこちらへ寄りなさい. Come closer over this way. | Draw [Move] nearer this way.

・船は 2 マイル北に寄った. The ship made two miles' northing.

・砂糖のかたまりにアリが寄ってきた. Ants have swarmed about the lump of sugar.

3 〔もたれる〕 lean against….

●柱に寄る lean against a pillar

4 〔集まる〕 meet; come [get, draw] together; gather; assemble; congregate.

●ちょっと寄る pay sb a casual visit; drop in 《on sb, at a house》; run in 《to sb》.

●ちょっとうちにお寄りになりませんか. Won't you come in just for a moment?
